Does your Diet Affect your Skin?

Taking care of your skin can sometimes feel like it's a full-time job. You have to take care of it daily to ensure that it stays healthy, and even still, there are some days where inflammation or breakouts will occur. Some days, you may even think you see more fine lines or wrinkles starting to develop.

Now you may be thinking to yourself "I use skincare products everyday, why am I still getting these unwanted blemishes or wrinkles?"

There's so much more to keeping your skin healthy than just slathering on skincare products everyday. Environmental factors and stress can play a big role in the health of your skin, and it's not just what's on the outside that matters either.

What you put inside of your body can affect the overall health of your skin just as much as (if not more than) anything else. If you're eating foods that aren't good for you, your skin will reflect that, and vice versa.

It's important to incorporate healthier foods into your diet to, first and foremost, maintain a healthy lifestyle but also to keep your skin glowing.

Here's a short list of some healthy foods you can incorporate into your diet to really help your skin maintain that beautiful glow:

Fruits & Vegetables

Many fruits and vegetables, like kale, spinach, avocados, and kiwis, contain antioxidants that work to protect your skin from free radical damage. Many of them also contain healthy amounts of Vitamin C which works to help combat the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Carrots specifically are a great source of beta-carotene which can help protect your skin against sun damage.

    Fish

Certain fish, like trout and salmon, contain a large amount of omega-3 fatty acids and protein that can assist in promoting collagen in your skin and strengthening its elasticity.

      Nuts

Different nuts like walnuts, peanuts, and almonds can assist in keeping your skin soft and smooth. They're packed with Vitamins A, C, and E which all work together to help keep your skin looking its best.

Vitamin A helps to speed up the healing process of breakouts and blemishes, while Vitamin C works to promote collagen production and improve your skin's tone and texture. Vitamin E helps to keep blood vessels dilated, and, in turn, keeps your skin hydrated.

        Beans

Beans are full of magnesium and zinc that can help fight acne and keep your skin looking clean and clear. They also contain antioxidants which help reduce free radical damage as well as help your skin's healing process.

Including more of these simple foods in your diet can help keep your skin healthy. You may even start to notice a difference in the overall texture and complexion of your skin within a few weeks.
