Prepare Your Skin for Spring with These 5 Tips

You probably spent the winter adjusting your skin to the lack of moisture in the air with heavy, hydrating products. But now that it's warmer, you don't necessarily need to do that.

The different seasons can affect our skin in different ways. In the cooler months, we often struggle with more dry, flaky skin. And in the warmer months, we struggle with more oily skin and an increase in breakouts.

Now that it's spring, you definitely need to change up that winter skincare routine of yours. Prepare your skin for spring with these 5 tips:

1. Use a lighter moisturizer.

During the winter you need a heavier, more hydrating moisturizer to help keep your skin from becoming overly dry. Now that the weather is getting warmer, you don't have to worry about dry skin (at least not as much).

Switch that heavy moisturizer you've been using to a lighter one instead, and help your skin breathe easier when you're out in the heat.

    2. Wear sunscreen!

Maybe you've been a little lax with your sunscreen during the winter, but now that spring is here and you'll be spending a lot more time outside, it's extremely important to slather on that sunscreen.

Sunscreen can help protect your skin from harmful UV rays and sun damage that can lead to signs of premature aging. Make sure to use an SPF of at least 30.

      3. Anticipate breakouts or inflammation.

Spring's warmer weather can cause an increase in sweat and oil production which can lead to clogged pores, breakouts, and inflammation.

You can try to reduce negative skin consequences by dabbing your face periodically throughout the day when you notice an accumulation of sweat or oil. You can also try switching to a water-based cleanser if you have more oily or acne-prone skin.

        4. Add more Vitamin C to your routine.

During the warmer months, we tend to spend more time outside which can increase our risk for developing more fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots, and sun spots. To help reduce their appearance and help prevent hyperpigmentation, try adding a little more Vitamin C to your skincare routine.

        5. Avoid layering on the makeup.

Wearing a lot of makeup during the warmer weather can cause the skin to become congested and build up with bacteria and excess oil. Instead of layering on a ton of makeup this spring, try going for a more natural look with lighter (and less) products. It will, not only accentuate your beauty, but also allow your skin to breathe easier.
