How to Patch Test New Skincare

To patch test, apply a small amount of the new product to your inner forearm or behind your ear, leave it for 24 hours, and watch for redness, itching or irritation. If your skin stays calm, you can start using it on your face.

Step by step

  1. Choose a small patch of clean skin on your inner forearm or behind your ear.
  2. Apply a pea-sized amount of the product.
  3. Leave it on for 24 hours without washing the area.
  4. Check the spot. If there is no redness, itching, swelling or burning, start using it on your face.
  5. For the first week, use it once a day before building up.

When to stop

If you notice redness, itching, swelling or a rash, rinse the area with water and stop using the product. If a reaction is severe or does not settle, contact a doctor.
