The Summer Skincare Mistakes Most Women Make after 60

The summer skincare mistake most women make after 60 | Noche Y Dia

Most of us, when summer arrives, start cutting back. Lighter moisturizer, fewer steps, less product. The reasoning feels obvious. It's hot. The skin feels different. Why pile more on?

But after writing to women about their skin for years now, I've noticed something. Summer is the season when consistency matters most. Not less.

The heat does things to older skin that younger skin tolerates without much trouble. The sweat, the sun, the slower recovery, all of it asks more from your routine. And there are three specific habits I see women drop in summer that they really shouldn't.

Here they are.

1. Cutting back on moisturizer because your skin feels oily.

This is the one I hear about most. It's hot, your skin feels greasy by noon, and you decide to drop the cream or go with something lighter. Sometimes you skip moisturizer altogether.

Here's what's actually happening. When skin feels oily on the surface in summer, that's often a sign of dehydration underneath. Your skin is producing extra oil to compensate for the moisture it isn't getting. If you cut the moisturizer, you make the problem worse. The skin compensates harder, and the cycle continues.

After 60, this matters more. Your skin already produces less natural moisture than it did in your 40s. Removing the moisturizer in summer is removing what little support is left. The fix is twofold. Keep your moisturizer through the summer. Our Vitamin C Face Cream is lightweight and absorbs quickly, so it doesn't feel heavy in the heat. And drink more water than you think you need. Skin hydration comes from the inside too, not just from what you put on your face.

2. Over-cleansing because everything feels like sweat.

Summer means more sweat, more time outdoors, more reasons to feel like your skin needs an extra wash. So the routine starts to creep. Two or three cleanses a day. Stronger cleansers to "really get it off." Sometimes a scrub thrown in for good measure.

This is where the trouble starts. Twice a day with a gentle cleanser is exactly right. The problem starts when women add a THIRD cleanse to deal with afternoon sweat, or switch to stripping foaming washes, or work in a scrub to "really get it off." Each extra cleanse removes a layer of the lipids your skin depends on to stay smooth and hydrated.

The result women describe is the crepey, paper-thin look that creeps in by August. The fix is to cleanse gently twice a day, but skip the extras. No third cleanse, no scrubs, no stripping foaming washes. Our Vitamin C Cleansing Water is gentle enough for daily morning and night use and won't strip your skin.

3. Dropping Vitamin C because you think it's a winter product.

Some women associate Vitamin C with brightening routines they do in the cooler months, when their skin looks duller. So they put the Serum away in May and pick it back up in October.

That's a mistake. Vitamin C is an antioxidant, and your skin benefits from antioxidant support all year, particularly in summer when it's working hardest. The longer you go without it, the more your skin loses the radiant, even-toned appearance you'd notice in winter.

After 60, recovery slows down. The brightness and even tone you maintain with consistent Vitamin C in May and June is harder to get back if you wait until September to start again. Keeping our Vitamin C Serum in your morning routine through the summer is one of the easiest things you can do to support your skin's appearance all season.

The bigger idea.

The instinct to do less in summer comes from the right place. We notice our skin behaving differently and try to respond. But the response that works for younger skin (less product, lighter routine, fewer steps) doesn't work the same way for skin in its 60s and beyond.

Your skin asks for more consistent care in summer, not less. The same products, the same morning and night routine, just maybe adjusted slightly for the season. Lighter creams if the heavy ones feel too rich. Gentler cleansing. Same Vitamin C. Same care.

It's the women who maintain the consistency through summer who look the best in September. Not because they did something dramatic, but because they didn't drop what was working.

Ava-Ann
